Here are some helpful hints for living with natural stone

Hot oils are the enemy of ALL natural stones, try to keep frying oils

and other oily compounds away from natural stone because they will

temporarily cause a stain to occur.

-

ALL stone must be sealed prior to use.

-

Natural stone should be re-sealed about every 3 to 5 years.

A good indicator that your stone needs re-sealing is when water doesn't

bead-up on the surface of the stone.

-

Sealer DOES NOT prevent etching from occurring on Marble

and limestone.  Sealer will only prevent stains from occurring

due to exposure to water, oils or many organic compounds.

-

Re-caulking the sink and the backsplashes every 1 or 2 years will help

your natural stone keep it's good looks for many years to come. Also

this will prevent germs from growing. (And it will preserve your cabinets as well!)

-

Honed countertops in your home can be re-honed again in the future.

Marble and limestone are easier to re-hone, but granite can be re-honed as well.

-

If you've found an organic stain on your natural stone counter, and it just

won't come out with typical cleaning methods, try a paste of natural white

baking flour and hydrogen peroxide.  Put the paste over the stain, cover

with clear plastic food wrap and let sit until dry.  This quick and easy poultice

works very well on many stains, without caustic chemicals.
